Martyn Da Psalmist (Martyn Magu) is a gifted musician, song writer, recording artist and an upcoming producer. He has endeavored over the years to perfect his unique style of music, and to subsequently re-invent his song writing skills to encompass a positive vibe and the inspirational message and direction he intends to communicate to his audience. He began his musical journey in1998 while still in the town of Nakuru; his home town and where he grew up, before he decided to follow the passion of his dream, of becoming a seasoned recording artist, and producer. He met a producer at one concert’s he was performing at, who in turn invited him to Nairobi for a recording. He later on recorded his 1st single “Give it up…Give it up”; which never saw the light of day, simply because he didn’t have the money to pay for it then; so the producer refused to release the song to him! A year and a half later, he joined a local church’s music team and proceeded to sing and sharpen his vocal skills! He later joined a vocal training music school and continued nurturing his craft as a singer and a professional vocalist/musician….
During this years, he was able to with a friend who was an upcoming producer then, who helped him make some sound tracks for the songs he had already writing, which he used to perform in numerous concerts, church youth meetings,etc and these gave him a good platform to expose his gift and gain performing experience. He later on enrolled at the Homeboyz Entertainment M.T.A Academy (Music Technology Academy) in 2006 to pursue Basic and advanced studio production and sound engineering! This was most definitely the area he felt most comfortable to pursue, and craft his skills besides being a vocalist! He later successfully completed his production module course, and could finally begin to do what he’s always dreamt of passionately doing; which was to sing, record, produce and just make beautiful music!
A year later, he quit his sales executive job and began his own record Company, “Real Vessel Entertainment”, which mainly houses his record label, “Real Vessel Music”, which seeks to produce and resonate a different new sound to the industry of gospel music that we so diligently seek to build! Also under this company is “Nitty Gritty Inc.” that majors on digital graphic design i.e Cd album covers and DVD covers, posters, handbills, portfolio enhancement design e.t.c! And since He began this journey, he’s produced his debut album, “Chronicles of the Psalmist”; released in April 2008! Since he released his 1st album in April 2008, he’s toured Burundi to promote his album in June 2008,and he still plans to do an entire east and central Africa tour with his 2nd album “This is who I am” on the way! His style can only be described as refreshingly unique, contemporary and uncommon. as a matter of fact, he’s invented his own genre of contemporary gospel which he appropriately named it “Hip&B!He describes his style as a fusion of R&B, soul and mostly Hip-hop totally fresh and new style of uplifting contemporary gospel music.
He also plans to tour the US, Europe, U.K and South Africa! He trusts the Lord will continue to opening doors for this remarkable ministry; for this gift is a phenomenal instrument in the hands of God to restore healing, and bring transformation and change to the broken souls of the world, and this generation! He’s very passionate about the Ministry of Praise and Worship, and is currently serving as a music minister in the “Purpose Voices” of The Purpose Centre Church! His hobbies are meeting new people and socializing, music, swimming, movies (specifically stand up comedy, thrillers, science fiction and action to name a few), dancing and horse riding! He’s already recording his 2nd album, and will communicate which date he’ll be releasing the album later in the year! And also intends to fuse different genres to cultivate and create a new refreshing sound! He continually thanks God for empowering & inspiring him to make uplifting music…..and lastly but not least; he’ll be launching later on in the year his Clothing line,”Psalmist Apparel Co.” which will majorly feature casual and formal casual branded hip clothing; that exhibits style and comfort, and also expresses your individual personality and taste in dressing! He plans to establish this as an East, South and Central African brand; and be the main distributor to Europe and the U.S!
