First and foremost, let me start by introducing myself. My names are Lee Wendo aka Mr Lee of the Wernono Family (which is a 10-man Crew) and I’m born again, I love Jesus to the core. Wernono Family is a gospel group comprised of different groups and solo artists, namely: Fatmod (in which I’m a member), The Chiefs, React, Solid C & SMA. We all used to fellowship in the same church, i.e. KAG BuruBuru and have one common goal which is to use our God given talents in glorifying and magnifying the name of Jesus Christ.
So, this is how it all came to be. I grew up in the church and started my interest in music while I was young. I used to play with the drums in church, make beats on my desk at school, such kind of a thing. By then it wasn’t any serious passion for music. Though I had grown up in church, I only came to make a formal stand in high school that I was born again and accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord & Savior. In high school, that’s where my interest in music developed and it started by listening to gospel music. This is when I first heard of gospel hiphop/reggae/ragga. The very first artists that I listened to and really inspired me were Gospel Gangstaz, Christafari, Papa San, Stitchie, GRITS, Pigeon John, 4th Avenue Jones, and the list continues. I started by lip-sinking their songs and performing in school events with my two friends (Eric and Xaviour) who really gave me the confidence and courage to press on. It was hard at first but kept on developing and improving myself.
After high-school, we all went our separate ways and I thought that it was the end of all that. Lucky enough, I came to my home church and met this guy who had a vision of conducting a talent search at church. I was really psyched by this and saw some hope of continuing with my desire and passion for music. I met other guys with similar interests and decided to form a group and enrolled for the talent search (the now known as Talent-Mania Awards). After this talent search we became good friends and met some other guys with similar interests. We decided to form a group (the now known as FATMOD) and started recording. We did our first hit single known as Songa Kando which did very well and got nominated for a number of awards. We proceeded and did an album known as “the Gospel According to Fatmod” which was well received in the market. We met with other groups and solo artists back in church that were interested and inspired by our ministry. This saw the formation of an even larger group now known as Wernono Family. From Wernono Family, we nurtured one another both spiritually & musically and have been able to work on a number of projects together. This has seen us release our first album dubbed 10 ideas and other solo albums from Ngashville, Dunco and the Chiefs. As Mr Lee, all these have given me much exposure and have also led me to do a number of solo projects. I am currently working on my solo album and Fatmod’s second album which is almost done, just in the last stages of production. That's all for now folks, hold it right there for some more juice.
